Where to live

El Poblado

The expat hub, with restaurants, coworking spaces and nightlife. The most expensive area.

Laureles

Flat, walkable and more local, with tree-lined streets. A favorite with long-stay remote workers.

Envigado

A quieter neighboring city with a strong local feel. Good for families.

Our plans match neighborhoods to how you work, your budget and who's moving with you.

Getting around

Colombia's only metro, with cable cars and trams linking hillside neighborhoods. Ride-hailing apps are widely used. Most newcomers don't buy a car.

Language and English

Limited outside El Poblado and the expat scene. Conversational Spanish makes a big difference to daily life and safety.

Healthcare

Colombia's private hospitals in Medellín are well regarded. The digital nomad visa requires health insurance that covers you in Colombia.

Safety

Check the US State Department's current advisory for Colombia before you go. It changes, so we link to it rather than copy it. Like any big city, Medellín has areas that are safer than others, and your plan flags the ones to know about.
