Numbeo's Rome page was last updated Dec 7, 2025, so rents may have risen since. Treat these as a floor.

Weather through the year

Monthly averages from 2016–2025, from Open-Meteo historical weather data (ERA5 reanalysis). Rain totals from weather models can run high in mountain cities, so treat them as a guide to the wet and dry seasons.
Where to live
Monti
Central, with boutiques, wine bars and old streets near the Colosseum. Walkable and lively.
Prati
Orderly, well-connected streets near the Vatican. Practical for a first year.
Testaccio
A local food neighborhood with a covered market. Good value for central Rome.
Monteverde
Green and residential above Trastevere, close to the Villa Pamphili park. Popular with families.
Our plans match neighborhoods to how you work, your budget and who's moving with you.
Getting around
Two main metro lines, buses and trams. The historic center is best on foot. Traffic is heavy and the center restricts cars, so many residents skip owning one.
Language and English
Common in tourist areas and international jobs, less so in offices and shops. Italian matters for daily life and for the residence permit process.
Healthcare
Italy's national health service (SSN) is open to many legal residents, but the digital nomad visa requires private health insurance at application.
Safety
Check the US State Department's current advisory for Italy before you go. It changes, so we link to it rather than copy it. Like any big city, Rome has areas that are safer than others, and your plan flags the ones to know about.
Your first week in Rome
Land with people, not just a lease.
With a Complete or Household plan, you join everyone moving to Rome the same month in a group chat before you fly, then meet in person during your first week.
