Where to live

Le Marais

Historic streets, galleries and cafés in the center. Lively and pricey.

Canal Saint-Martin and the 10th

Younger, creative and full of cafés and coworking spaces.

Montmartre and the 18th

Village feel on the hill, with views. Some streets are rougher than others.

Boulogne-Billancourt

Just outside the city line, calmer and popular with families.

Our plans match neighborhoods to how you work, your budget and who's moving with you.

Getting around

One of the world's best metro systems, plus buses, RER trains and Vélib' bikes. Almost no one needs a car.

Language and English

Common in central Paris, tech and tourism, much less so in offices and smaller cities. French matters for daily life and paperwork.

Healthcare

France's public system (Assurance Maladie) is excellent once you're enrolled, usually after 3 months of residence; most newcomers keep private cover until then.

Safety

Check the US State Department's current advisory for France before you go. It changes, so we link to it rather than copy it. Like any big city, Paris has areas that are safer than others, and your plan flags the ones to know about.
