Numbeo's Athens page was last updated Oct 22, 2025, so rents may have risen since. Treat these as a floor.

Weather through the year

Monthly averages from 2016–2025, from Open-Meteo historical weather data (ERA5 reanalysis). Rain totals from weather models can run high in mountain cities, so treat them as a guide to the wet and dry seasons.
Where to live
Koukaki
Walkable streets right below the Acropolis, with cafés and good metro access. Easy for a first move.
Pangrati
A local, lived-in neighborhood near the Olympic stadium, full of cafés. Popular with remote workers.
Kolonaki
Upscale and central, with boutiques and embassies. Higher rents.
Glyfada
The southern coast, with beaches, marinas and international schools nearby. A favorite with families.
Our plans match neighborhoods to how you work, your budget and who's moving with you.
Getting around
Metro, trams and buses, plus a coastal tram to the southern beaches. Central neighborhoods are walkable. Summer heat makes midday walking hard.
Language and English
Widely spoken, especially among younger Athenians and anyone working with visitors. Government offices often work in Greek, so a translator helps for paperwork.
Healthcare
Greece has a public system (ESY), but the digital nomad visa requires private health insurance. Most newcomers use private clinics and keep their coverage.
Safety
Check the US State Department's current advisory for Greece before you go. It changes, so we link to it rather than copy it. Like any big city, Athens has areas that are safer than others, and your plan flags the ones to know about.
Your first week in Athens
Land with people, not just a lease.
With a Complete or Household plan, you join everyone moving to Athens the same month in a group chat before you fly, then meet in person during your first week.
